Episode 15: The Abortion Ban

This weeks Clearly Off Topic conversation turns to the heavy and controversial topic of Abortion in the United States.

A hot topic at all times in our history but one of utmost importance to every citizen.  Juliet and Lindsay present facts and share their personal opinions, while encouraging listeners to do their own research.

the dangers of false information. Not everything you hear or read on the internet is true! It all started with a tweet.

President Trump “The baby is born. The mother meets with the doctor. They take care of the baby. They wrap the baby beautifully. And then the doctor and the mother determine whether or not they will execute the baby.” False information from authority figures presents a grave danger for society and individuals. Remember to think about who, where, and what organizations your information is coming from. Gather your facts and make your own informed decisions.

FYI - New York is NOT killing babies, Juliet did some googling to get to the truth about late term abortions. You can't kill a baby after it is born, that is murder in the state of New York and any state in the U.S. Doctors all practice under a code of conduct and what the President tweeted is a complete falsehood.

Let's talk about late term abortions - Late term abortion means and abortion that happens up until 28 weeks.

National data does indicate that that late term abortions are EXTREMELY rare.

Late term abortions happen for specific reasons: The mother's life is in danger, or that there's no potential for that baby to live past birth which Doctor's will decide that the fetus has no viability.

This all still follows the Roe v. Wade standard - you cannot have an abortion past 28 weeks no matter where you are in the United States.

A full term baby is born anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks.

The statics of late term abortions - 65 percent of abortions happen in the first eight weeks. People are not waiting around pregnant for 20 weeks deciding to to keep the child or not - They decide within the first 8 weeks.

Reasons women have abortions in general - Rape, economic hardship, fetal viability, genetic abnormalities.

No one wants to have an abortion. These decisions are not made lightly. No one wants to carry a baby full term then kill it. That is insanity.

New laws criminalizing abortion:

There are bills regarding abortion that are attempting to make abortion or attempted abortion felony offense except in cases where abortion is necessary in order to prevent serious health risks to the unborn child's mother.

If you live in Alabama, it's a felony for a doctor to perform a normal abortion. So if a doctor performs an abortion for a woman who was raped in Alabama they would go to jail for many more years than the rapist himself.

Don't lose hope - You can still find a place to have an abortion if you need it.

We are not telling you to get an abortion. we are telling you that if you decide to have one, you have safe options. Don't attempt something unsafe because you feel trapped. You still have accessibility to health care.

Does heartbeat really matter? Juliet thinks the true test of life is when the brain is fully formed and functioning. You can live with a transplanted heart, a pacemaker etc but you cannot live without a brain. Brain = life.

One last thought - People are killing things with heartbeats all the time, animal agriculture anyone? If you eat meat you simply can't be pro-life in our humble opinion.
